Before we continue with coding, it's useful to put some things in perspective. Which practical use do you think that we may have for the custom pages? So here comes two procedures that will connect the dots:
Go to admin, structure, categories & boards and create a new topic board with three sub-boards by following my pattern (Joker's locker room, Redirect to custom page, Redirect to forum thread and Redirect to external site, respectively), but please feel free to choose your own appropriate titles. For the three sub-boards, double click on them in the admin/categories & boards mode - where you can edit the properties - and click on settings in the window that opens. Insert the URL address to your custom page, a forum thread (on any forum, actually) and an external site (on your three new sub-boards) in the box below Redirect URL, then click on save changes and voilĂ , you should now hopefully have successfully created redirects to three different items, which you can check by entering them in the normal visual mode (standard forum boards display outside the admin area)!
Now, we want to create a clickable button in the Navigation Bar that leads to your custom page. Go to admin, settings, forum settings, navigation and click on add custom. Call the new button by your username and insert the URL address to your custom page. Click on the button to make sure that it works.
Final part: Go to admin, settings, forum settings, forum and check the box called Forum Home Page. Replace the Forum (Default) option with your own page and check that it opens there when you enter a new version of the forum. Restore it to default afterwards and verify that it has changed. You now know how to create a home page and make it your forum's default page!
